pastors reject age term limit

Nigerian pastor have rejected the age retirement policy of the Financial Reporting Council for religious leaders in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by Pastor Breakthrough Ogah who is the chairman of the national board of trustees and exclusively obtained by xclusive234.com, the pastors said they were ordained by God and only him has the right to retire them.

They insisted that failure to bring down the law can affect the leadership position in the country as they have influence over their members.
Read the statement below:
We condemn in strong term the recent age retirement policy of the Financial Reporting Council for pastors in Nigeria. Pastors are not government employees! They are employed by God and their retirement and resignation are determined by the holy writ!
The policy is obnoxious and repugnant to equity and good conscience. Its an anti-pastors policy which is not in the best interest of pastors who pray daily for the well being of this country. Pastors service is not political! The government policies on money laundering by the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering SCUML and the Company And Allied Matters Acts for the annual submission of audited accounts by churches like other Non -Governmental Organizations are enough policies to regulate churches.
The special clause contained in the incorporated constitution of every registered church has clearly stated how church monies and property should be administered.

This registered association is already senticizing pastors nationwide on compliance with existing laws. The policy on age retirement has the tendency of generating issues that would heat the already hot polity. It also has a long way of affecting the leadership of this country , since pastors have great influence on the populace who worship under them.
We therefore call for a total repeal of the law.
The FRC’s regulation stipulates 20 years tenure for heads of religious groups and civil society groups in the Nigeria and this was said to have allegedly forced the retirement of Adeboye.
